, Corsicana, Texas
: The AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc., has announced a $50,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County that will help fund a center for at-risk area youth. The grant was presented today during a luncheon event to support the organization's capital campaign.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County are conducting their first-ever capital campaign, "Building Bridges of Success for the Future of Our Youth," to construct a 17,500-square-foot facility that will be used to conduct programs for underprivileged youth ages 6-18.
"The Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County are accomplishing wonderful things in their work with area youth," said U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis. "I know that this new youth center will be a great resource to the area for many years to come." Rep. Barton addressed luncheon attendees and accepted the grant check from AT&T on behalf of the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"We're grateful for Rep. Barton's focus on children's issues and for his dedication to the Boys and Girls Clubs in making this project a reality," said Debbie Keel, area manager, external affairs, AT&T Inc. "The AT&T Foundation is proud to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County, which is providing a positive environment for children and helping shape the leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to seeing the success of the Navarro County children served by this new center."
The new Boys and Girls Clubs facility will provide opportunities for young people to learn, explore, and realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The educational and social programs of the Boys and Girls Clubs provide youth with an alternative to crime, gangs, drugs, and other negative influences, and are designed to meet children's needs when they are greatest — after school, during the summer, and during school holidays.
"The Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County are excited about the new youth center, which will provide more than 200 area children annually with a safe place to learn and play during non-school hours," said Eula Linicomn, executive director, Boys and Girls Clubs of Navarro County. "With the support of Rep. Barton and community business leaders like AT&T, we're opening doors to new opportunities for the boys and girls we serve."
About the Boys and Girls Clubs of America In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys and Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and service promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence. Boys and Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow — all while having fun. They are truly "The Positive Place For Kids."
