Siemens rewarded biggest urban traffic control turn key project in China

Wuhan Urban Construction Utilization of Foreign Investment Project Management Office on behalf of Wuhan Traffic Police selected a consortium led by Siemens to establish one of the most modern urban traffic control systems (UTC)

30 May 2007 , Erlangen : Wuhan Urban Construction Utilization of Foreign Investment Project Management Office on behalf of Wuhan Traffic Police selected a consortium led by Siemens to establish one of the most modern urban traffic control systems (UTC). The order is worth about 82 million RMB (about 7.9 million euros). The consortium members include Siemens Limited China Industrial Solutions and Services (SLC I&S) as consortium leader, Siemens International Trading, Ltd. Shanghai (SITL), Wuhan E-Fly Technology Co., Ltd, and Siemens AG. This project, with its challenging implementation time of just 20 months is financed by the World Bank and will be the biggest single awarded contract for UTC systems in China.

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, one of the most important cities in Central China with a population of 8.5 million inhabitants identified the needs to align the fast economical growths with the demand for smooth traffic flow. This project will equip more than 420 junctions with complete traffic control technology including CCTV monitoring, traffic detection, traffic lights and latest communication system linking a main control center and 2 sub-centers in Wuhan. The UTC systems will co-ordinate traffic signal timing to increase traffic flow and reduce delay at road junctions, helping to optimize journey times and improve the efficiency of the transport network.

The rewarding of the contract to the consortium is reflecting the long term experience of SLC and its partners in solutions for intelligent traffic systems in China as well as Siemens’ more than 10 years local presence in Wuhan.

In response to the needs of middle-income countries, the World Bank Group provides a flexible program of banking, financing and knowledge services. World Bank's International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) supported the Wuhan Urban Construction Utilization of Foreign Investment Project Management Office with financial services to realize this project.
