: Tata Power Energy Club (TPEC) post its maiden entry in Steel City of India, Jamshedpur has covered 8 schools and has sensitized 5255 students across the city in phase I.
TPEC which started with 5 schools in its initial phase has now been extended to cover 8 schools and further aims to cover 2 more schools, with requests coming in from adjoining areas to launch the programme in their locality and region. With the success and acceptance of this programme by the schools and school children, it now moves into top gear wherein the sensitized students will be trained to impart the leanings to their family, neighbourhood and society thereby expediting the achievement of the target of the programme at the national level.
Tata Power’s ‘Energy Conservation Programme’ was introduced in various schools in the city, to create maximum impact on the need for awareness amongst people on the effective management conservation of electricity in one’s everyday life.
The programme was kick started with 4 schools (Vivek Vidayalya, Vig English School, Hillstop School and Shiksha Niketan High School) in Jamshedpur, wherein the 2400 students underwent training sessions and workshops focusing on methods and means of energy conservation.
Speaking on the initiative Mr. P.L. Manjrekar Head-Jojobera Thermal Power Station, Tata Power, said, ‘Our energy conservation programme has received enthusiastic response in Jamshedpur and going by this success, we aim to target 10 schools in total. We are overwhelmed by the support and willingness shown by the different schools and believe that these students; the ambassadors of the cause, will further spread the message to more and more people in the years to come. We are very confident that the residents of Jamshedpur will give in their whole hearted support to this initiative and the larger cause of energy conservation.’
The Programme: Tata Power Energy Club is an initiative to sensitize the youth to reduce power wastage and save energy through various active measures. Interactive sessions through In-class Educational Film and Presentation are undertaken to reinforce the content and assess the integration of thought into action, school children are trained to understand the basics such as Interpretation of electricity bills, basic steps that will help curb wastage of power at home, school and society with the help of Energy Audits and Energy Calculators, Optimizing the use of electrical gadgets / devices at home with the participation of family members, recording and sharing the effective practices adopted and results within their immediate circle.
The initiative aims not only at bringing down energy consumption in their homes but also spread the message in their neighbourhood.
