: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded Unisys (NYSE: UIS) a five-year, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract with a ceiling value of $25 million to operate, maintain and enhance the USDA Rural Development Guaranteed Loan System (GLS) and Guaranteed Underwriting Systems (GUS), which process billions of dollars in loans annually for individuals and businesses in rural America.
The contract includes a one-year base period and four one-year options, exercisable at the sole discretion of the government and is a recompete of a contract that Unisys first won in 1996. The government will order work by issuing firm-fixed-price task orders under the contract, and the value of those task orders is expected to be roughly the same for each of the five years.
As part of the new GLS Operations and Maintenance contract, Unisys will continue to operate and maintain the GLS infrastructure and application originally developed in 1999. Unisys will also continue to operate and maintain GUS and perform system upgrades to support the increase in loan volume resulting from actions taken under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
This latest award follows the recent announcement by Unisys of a contract award to work with the USDA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer to help the department and its agencies review, analyze and upgrade IT security procedures and tools, as well as respond to attacks against USDA systems and resources.
“The GLS contract expands Unisys long-standing relationship with the USDA,” said Robert Bratt, managing partner for civilian agencies, Unisys Federal Systems. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with USDA Rural Development — delivering enhancements to the GLS that will support the agency’s e-government initiatives and enable it to effectively and rapidly process and report on loans disbursed using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.”
In addition to the GLS contract, Unisys was also recently awarded a separate five-year contract to maintain and enhance the USDA Program Funds Control System. This system consolidates the loan and grant controls for USDA Rural Development and the USDA Farm Service Agency. It helps process billions of dollars in loans and grants to rural America and is a key component of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. |
